Avatar is a science fiction media franchise which started with the 2009 film of the same name. Cryonics is featured as a method for surviving interstellar travel, referred to in-universe as cryosleep.[1]

The writers of the Avatar universe created detailed background lore for this process, even mentioning how the problem of ice crystal formation was solved: "The problem of irreparable cell damage caused by the formation of intracellular ice crystals was solved by using low doses of microwave radiation to jostle the water molecules as the temperature drops, which eliminates the formation of any ice crystals."
