Plot summary[править]
A pair of twins, related not to each other, but to an earlier couple, discover the true meaning of their origins. It is a time when periodic wars, pandemics and natural disasters have killed billions. Aging has been cured, but cryonics patients still await repair technologies that will restore them to healthy functioning.
The twins' journey will take them into a time when the biosphere itself is destroyed, and the Solar System faces obliteration. As the twins search for the meaning of their own lives, they learn that all of humanity faces extinction. Their fate is tied up in the struggle to save those who choose to hang back and perish as well as those who leave the Solar System and go to the stars.[3]
