Jack Erfurt
Dr. John C "Jack" Erfurt[1] (January 3, 1934 – legal death September 9, 1992)[2][1] was a long-time officer of the Cryonics Institute (CI).[3] With his wife Andrea Foote,[4] he established the "Wellness Outreach at Work Program" at the University of Michigan, which included regular blood pressure checks at automakers.[5] In their honor, the University of Michigan School of Social Work established the Andrea Foote–Jack Erfurt Scholarship.[5]
He was born in in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.[2] He experienced sudden death on September 9, 1992 when he was 58 years old, and although the medical examiner signed the death certificate almost immediately, his body was not discovered until several hours after legal death.[2] The ninth patient of CI, he was cryopreserved.[6] The main building of CI is named the Erfurt Runkel Building in honor of him and Walter Runkel.[3]
