Orville Martin Richardson[1] (November 9, 1927 – legal death February 19, 2009)[2][3] is an American cryonics patient who had been buried for over a year before his cryopreservation.

Richardson signed up for neuropreservation with the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in 2004.[3] He had a long career as a pharmacist in Burlington. He was married, but had no children, and his wife predeceased him.[1]

He legally died on February 19, 2009, having suffered from dementia the year before his death.[3] His brother and sister had him embalmed and then buried in Burlington on February 21, 2009.[1] Alcor learned of his death two months afterwards, when his brother asked Alcor to refund the money paid.[3]

After unsuccessful discussions with his brother and sister to obtain access to the remains, Alcor petitioned the Iowa District Court for Des Moines County on June 8, 2009. On July 15, 2009, the district court ruled in favor of his relatives, but Alcor took the case to the Iowa Supreme Court on August 12, 2009.[3] On May 12, 2010, the Iowa Court of Appeals ruled that the remains belonged to Alcor.[1] The patient was received at Alcor on September 3, 2010.[4] His identifier is A-2098.

While Alcor followed the patient's wishes for preservation under poor conditions in this case, this case does not imply or endorse beliefs that remains in poor condition can be revived in any ordinary sense.[3]
