Rhea Ettinger (née Chaloff;[1] January 15, 1899 – legal death September 1977)[1] is the first person cryopreserved by the Cryonics Institute (CI). She was the mother of Robert Ettinger, "the father of cryonics" who founded CI. Cryopreserved in September 1977, she was placed in dry ice for about ten years until CI began using liquid nitrogen in 1987.[2]
