Steven Universe
Steven Universe is an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. It is the coming-of-age story of a young boy named Steven Universe, who lives in the fictional town of Beach City with the "Crystal Gems" – Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, three magical humanoid aliens. Steven, who is half-Gem, goes on adventures with his friends and helps the Gems protect the world from their own kind.
Setting[править]
The series is set in fictional Beach City on the Delmarva Peninsula on the American East Coast. Later on the show we find out it actually take place alternate universe where area as separate American state from parts of Maryland, small part of Virginia with Delware encompasses the whole state.[1] In Beach City, the Crystal Gems live in an ancient beach side temple, protecting the world from evil. Ageless alien warriors, they project feminine humanoid forms from magical gemstones that are the core of their being. The four Crystal Gems are Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, and Steven, a young half-human, half-Gem boy who inherited his gemstone from his mother Rose Quartz, who used to be the leader of the Crystal Gems. As Steven tries to figure out his powers, he spends his days with his human father Greg, his friend Connie, the other people in Beach City, or the Gems, either to help them save the world or just hang out. He explores the abilities passed down to him by his mother, which include fusion—the ability of Gems to merge their bodies and abilities to form new and more powerful personalities.[2]
Postgenderist and transhumanist themes[править]
The show has been described as the first cartoon to actually explore postgenderist themes intentionally. The series features anthropomorphic minerals species named "Gems" who also later reveal have some form of AI to help their representation of their humanoid forms, modelled after human females who are non-biologically gender/asexual and non-binary, While Steven (and main star of show) an human-gem hybrid twice biologically "fused" with her friend Connie into 'Stevnnoie', it's gender is non-binary due once fact Steven is again half-gem.[3]
