Immortality
Immortality within a transhumanist context has a few meanings.
- Near-future life extension techniques - often in the context of the longevity escape velocity
- Biological immortality - a similar concept which encompasses more radical self modification technologies such a nanotechnology, requiring technological longevity
- Posthuman transhumanism - full immortality an implementation of the above with the ability to survive existential risks with more radical self modification, typically after mind uploading
- External immortality - There is continuity of a person from an external point of view, but the individual 'dies' without continuity of consciousness
- Digital immortality, whereby a digital copy of some kind is achieved.
