The key transhumanist plot point in the movie is the use of psychoactive drugs as a controlling device. Nootropic drugs have become both a negative and positive plot device in many sci-fi movies. In this case, they are firmly used in he negative, with mind bending substances forced upon the people in order to control them. Quite the opposite of what David Pearce may envision with his Hedonistic Imperative.
