De facto transhumanist

De facto transhumanist is an expression used to describe opinions of individuals, organisations or media that appear to be transhumanist, but where the word 'transhumanist' is deliberately avoided or may simply be unknown to the person expressing the sentiment. An individual who has made weaker comments towards transhumanism may be a transhumanist sympathiser instead.

Interviewer: Yeah, future outlook, what are you going to do over the next 5 years, one sentence?

RU: I think it's a possibility

RU: I honestly do! I think I might live forever in some form by that time, technology's changing so fast

Sebastian Thrun

Sebastian Thrun, founder of Udacity, and formerly a lead designer at Google for autonomous cars, expressed the following in a recent interview (emphasis added):

Technology is making great progress in medical diagnosis, for example. Artificial intelligence systems can already recognize certain skin diseases better than physicians can. Synthetic biology, which can already be used to create cells, is also very interesting. I believe that we will be able to get a grip on most cancers and circulatory diseases. And we will be able to double our life expectancy in the foreseeable future. This is only the beginning of world history. Ninety-nine percent of interesting things have not yet been invented.
