Frank Herbert's Dune is a science fiction TV mini-series that aired in 2000.
It is based on the novel Dune written by Frank Herbert.
Plot
Dune is set a few thousand years in the future, during a time where humans have colonised the galaxy.
The planet Arrakis (nicknamed Dune) is of particular importance, and is the battleground of factions who seek to control the flow of "spice", a compound with many enhancing properties.
Transhumanist Elements
The spice harvested on Arrakis (Dune) has many different properties. It is able to; increase intelligence much like a nootropic, can provide the person who takes it with a kind of telekinetic ability, and it is also said to increase longevity.
There are also some retro futurism elements, as well as a pinch of alien racism.
Sequel
The 3 part series was followed by Frank Herbert's Children of Dune that was released in 2003.
The series is based on the novel Children of Dune by Frank Herbert.
