Norman Hardy (February 8, 1933[1]legal death October 30, 2018)[2] was a software engineer in Silicon Valley[3] who became the first person to undergo cryopreservation after an assisted suicide under the newly enacted California End of Life Option Act (EOLOA).[4] He had been diagnosed with terminal metastatic prostate cancer that had spread to the bones and lungs.[2] The Act was used to reduce the potential ischemic damage that could have resulted from a prolonged dying process.[4] He was neuropreserved by the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, becoming Alcor's 164th patient, and his identifier is A-1990.[2]
