Colossus: The Forbin Project is a 1970 science fiction thriller movie directed by Joseph Sargent. The film is based on the book of the same name written by Dennis Feltham Jones (or D. F. Jones).
Plot
Dr Charles A. Forbin is tasked as the chief designer of a secret project dubbed "Colossus", a supercomputer nuclear weapons system.
But when Colossus comes online and delivers a message that there is another similar system out there, known as Guardian, things start to go horribly wrong.
Colossus and Guardian later merge and hold the world to ransom, claiming that by placing things into its control the world will be free of war.
Transhumanist Elements
- Both Colossus and Guardian are referred to as supercomputers, but there is clearly an element of AI at work inside the machines.
- The merging of the 2 machines could be seen as relavent to the Hive mind
- AI risk is clearly a big factor too, a weapons systems that goes awry being akin to that of the Terminator franchise's SkyNet.
